No doubt you have heard of the Treasurer's remarks regarding stripping Muslims (especially of dual citizenship status) of their Australian citizenships.

I read the papers today, and to my surprise, it's gone even further. The first paragraph begins as follows: "Western Australians agree with Costello's ...". WHAT? The most laid back state of Australia is actually taking a political side? And such a controversial side as that? Apparently we "are sick of even hearing the word "muslim"", and basically think that if ye'all donch wanna be auwssie you so be bloody drawn and quartered.

Wait, when I came here I thought this was a MULTICULTURAL society, or at least it claimed to be so. And even better, I thought this was more a land of free opportunity that our so-called land of the free and home of the brave. I thought people of different races and religions were accepted here.

Well, I guess some things don't change, and when it comes down to it, Australia is a dominantly white Judeo-Christian society which still calls the British Queen its Head of State. The rest of us don't really matter anyway, there's only a couple of million of us. Didn't Pauline Hanson want to kick the chinese immigrants out of the country as well because we were taking over the population and the top schools as well?

So it's okay that our poshest top schools are all church schools, but it's not okay that the muslims run their own schools, even when they follow the state syllabus? So it's okay for hippie and fundamentalist christian communes to exist, but it's not okay for a small bunch of muslims to live together under their religious laws? So it's okay for normal people to divorce under (as it is) Christian law, but it's not okay to divorce under shar'ia law? So it's okay to be a member of One Nation or the KKK under the guise of free speech and free choice, but it's not okay to be a muslim?

I thought that tolerance and understanding of other peoples' ways was supposed to be a way of life, and well, it really should be.

But sadly, I guess - no longer. Give it a month or two and I'm betting that we'll be seeing a repeat of the Salem witch trials. Arthur Miller sure knew what he was talking about when he wrote The Crucible. It's not hard for a (even global) community to fall into mass hysteria - I mean, just look around you, read the newspapers, watch TV. See the uproar over the Danish cartoons, which is just boiling and boiling and going overboard. See how everyone's getting scared and moving out of Arab countries, because deep inside them they know that this is the result of a deprived, universally feared community finally snapping. It's like the Exodus, only we're missing the Red Sea. There's race riots Sydneyside, there's shops owned by muslims being broken into and vandalised. We're looking at Kristallnacht, v.II.

Looks like the muslims are the new Jews. Only this time, the global community are the Nazis.
